How to Email Dropbox Links

Have you ever tried emailing a file to a client and they can’t receive it because the file is too large? With Dropbox, emailing a file as a link instead of as an attachment will help you avoid cluttering your outbox (and your recipients inbox) with files that are too large. You can share Dropbox links with anyone, regardless of whether they have a Dropbox account or not. When you share a link, the user will be able to download the file the same way they would an email attachment. Any changes they make to the downloaded file will not affect the file in your Dropbox account.

To share a Dropbox file via link:

  1. Right click on your Dropbox file
  2. Select the Share Dropbox link option. (A dialogue box will appear on the lower right of our screen, letting you know that the file has been copied to your clipboard).
  3. Create a new email message and “paste” (CTRL + V) the link into the message.

If you prefer for the link to appear as clickable text (e.g. CLICK HERE to download Contract), simply Right Click on hyperlink>Select Edit Hyperlink and Update the “Text to Display” field to alternate text.

It’s that easy and you’ll always look like a pro when you share files with your clients! Sign up for Dropbox…it’s FREE!
